Track Condition : Cullinan

Post by James Attwell »

Saw this along the line going out of Cullinan, I'm not a track expert but this looks really serious.

I'm also far from expert, but this damage seems not to have caused by a train. The damage appears to be on the outside edge of the rail and very localized, as if something very heavy fell onto the rail just at that point. I assume we are looking at a guard rail just inside the damaged rail. Is this on the tight curve leaving Rayton?

James, have you got any shots of this taken from a distance, showing the location and the type of track layout, so we can see where it is?

Unfortunately I dont have other photos of the track and location, but I could try drawing a diagram of the location. I will post it a.s.a.p.

I hope this could be of assistance, the piece of track it self is on the inside one by the yellow box.

At Cullinan on Saturday I took a walk up the S-bend leading out of town. The rail defect was there just as James said. Neither the guard rail nor the rail opposite are damaged. Isn't this something that Spoornet should repair?
