Supplying steam to the workshop, I presume, but not sure exactly what it would be used for. Steam cleaning? Heating? The boilers probably came from steam locomotives originally.

Well, here's an answer to the question,"what was their use?"
On 31st October 2009 the single boiler behind the shops was in use to steam-clean tank wagons.
