Railway sites hum with activity as contractors begin SGR work
There was also an extended piece on the TV news last night about how people are spending the compensation money that they received when their land was taken for the new standard gauge railway. Apparently there has been a spate of chaps taking second wives, and young women from up-country are flocking to the coast in the hope of bagging a newly-enriched husband. There are also fears of an increase in HIV/ADS in the area. However they did manage to interview one fairly sensible jua kali mechanic who said he was going to invest his KES 2.1 million (around USD 23,000) in expanding his business.

Chinese Railway Firm Withdraws Court Case Against Government
It's actually a case against the Ugandan government, but it's basically the same railway.
