From the East_African_Steam Yahoo group:
Apparently, KRC has now announced that after the official inaugural train on 31.05.2017 the local train service between Nairobi and Mombasa (Economy and First classes, 7 intermediary stops) is due to start operating on 01.06.2017. Schedules and prices will be announced the day before the start of service. This is partly in order to allow the operator to asses demand.

The 2nd daily pair of trains (Inter City with Premium Business Class and 1 intermediary stop at Mtito Andei) as well as freight service is due to start in 01.2018.

Rail strategy has potential to revolutionise development
In Summary

- Kenyatta’s railway strategy is also not a wasteful adventure into extravagant spending.
- By June 2017, truckers are handling more than 95 per cent of the freight moved from Mombasa port.
