Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) regrets the recent accident involving a recovery train and a truck that occurred at Kapiri Mposhi’s Lukanda Level Crossing in the early hours on 5 July...

ZRL Chief Executive Officer Christopher Musonda is deeply concerned with the increasing number of level crossing accidents, as a result of motorists disobeying traffic rules.

Mr Musonda has warned that ZRL will take legal action necessary to arrest the situation in addition to claims including prosecution of the individuals and companies that are found wanting.

“The rate at which motorists are disobeying traffic rules at level crossing is worrisome as well as a huge concern to Zambia Railways Limited. These accidents are not only posing a risk to human life, but they are also a huge cost to ZRL through repairs of damaged equipment as well as the rail track,” said Mr Musonda.

He has revealed that ZRL will recover the full cost of repairing the locomotive from the trucking company after technical assessment...
