The East African Community (EAC) has set aside $US5.6 billion for rebuilding the Mombasa- Nairobi-Kampala railway on 1,435mm gauge. This was announced in the course of the 14th EAC Heads of State Nairobi summit during the last week of November. Rehabilitating the Voi-Taveta line at an estimated cost of $200 million is also on the cards.
