Kenyan president makes railway decisions

PRESIDENT KIBAKI CHAIRS SECURITY MEETING

The National Security Committee met on Wednesday at Harambee House under the Chairmanship of President Mwai Kibaki.

President Kibaki also chaired a meeting to look into the current status of the Railway Sector.

The meeting that was also attended by the Prime Minister resolved to forward for consideration by the cabinet a re-negotiated concession agreement between Kenya and Uganda.

Among the highlights of the proposed agreement are changes to the Shareholder and leadership structure of the Kenya-Uganda Railway concession.

This is intended to fast-track the injection of new capital into the concession.

The meeting also resolved to forward for cabinet authorisation proposals for tendering of the design and construction of the New Standard-Gauge Railway line.
