Surely this is not one of the exhibits. If I were the museum director, I would hide this until it could be renovated. Is that blue bit a motor?

Well, it looks much better than most of the stuff the South African National Railway and Steam Museum (SANRASM) has on display!

Actually this isn't an exhibit. It is hidden round the side of the museum. Most of the exhibits are in extremely good condition. If you look further back in this photo gallery you'll see photos of many of the steam locos, not just the three which are operable. Most are in reasonably good cosmetic condition (apart from the diesels, which haven't been cosmetically restored yet). The Nairobi Railway Museum suffers from limited funding and resources, but the staff are professional and enthusiastic, and seem to have a genuine commitment to preserving historic exhibits. Kenya Railways also seems to have a sense of commitment to preserving some of its history.
