The last train was in August but they are expecting another one in the next few days. Hopefully it will arrive while I'm still here.

What kind of brakes are they using?
They always used to be vacuum but it looks like its changed over to air now.

Ian, I'm only guessing, but it looks like air. There are no hoses on the vacuum gooseneck, but there are air hoses.

Sadly the next train didn't arrive during my ten day stay here. Next time, in sha'allah...
Reminds me of the story they used to tell in Sudan of the twice-weekly train that was always hours late. One day they hear it coming from afar and it is EARLY. The mayor rushes out, gathers the police band and a lot of the citizenry, and when the train pulls into the station they give it a rousing welcome. The driver climbs down, looking a little bemused, and the mayor publicly congratulates him on arriving early. The driver replies, "No, I'm last Tuesday's train - I'm three days late!"
