CHINESE EXPERTS STUDYING TAZARA

Minister of transport Dr Harrison Mwakyembe told press representatives in Dar es Salaam on 6 September that a team of 70 technical experts from China is in Tanzania studying the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (Tazara) in detail, to establish the problems afflicting the ailing organisation, which is described as being “on the verge of collapseâ€. A team of similar size is in Zambia, looking at the problems on that side of the border. Both teams are to submit their reports by June 2013.
According to Mwakyembe, the Chinese government has donated 90 goods wagons and six new locomotives which are to be handed over soon.
