Photographers' Weekend, 13th and 14th June 2015
Calling all photographers! FOTR is offering a special weekend of "in the depot" and "out on the line" live steam railway photographic sessions. Hosted by the skilled railway photgrapher, David Benn FPSSA, this will be a not-to-be-missed event!
This event will be limited to just 50 participants to allow close tuition and ease of access by all participants.
This will be a fabulous opportunity to take some great photographs of our authentic, restored vintage steam train. We will provide specially posed settings in our depot as well as real live action shoots out on the rural Cullinan branch line. You will get the opportunity to take "mood" shots both by day and by night with the guidance and advice of experienced railway photographers.
Before dawn on Saturday morning 13th June we will meet up over coffee at FOTR's Capital Park Pretoria steam depot for sunrise and early morning photography of our locos, both posed and at work, shunting under the soft morning light. Later that morning the train will depart for Cullinan where we will take action shots out in the country-side as the train traverserses the sceneic Cullinan branch line. In the evening there will opportunities for sunset shots on the line and night shots by floodlight in the Cullinan station area.
First-light on Sunday morning will present yet more sunrise photo-opportunties out on the Cullinan branch line with false departures and arrivals. The morning is set aside for photographic run-pasts and posed shots. We will depart for Capital Park at about 15:00 on Sunday afternoon. Arrival home should be around 18:00.
The price is just R1750 per photographer, excluding accomodation and meals which can be arranged if required. We will be able to accomodate some photographers aboard the train (book please) or we can arrange more comfortable accomodation in one of the nearby Cullinan B+Bs or guest houses.
If booked in advance, spouses and non-photographers will be able to accompany photographers on the train to Cullinan and return at a lesser fare, but for safety reasons and to allow maximum opportunity for paying photographers, they will be required to keep well clear of the train and photographers and may not be permitted off-train access to the photoshoot locations.
The weekend is subject to a minimum number of photographic participants (40) and the necessary authorities being received from Transnet Freight Rail. FOTR reserves the right to cancel or postpone without giving advance notice if necessary. Safety will be paramount and all particpants will be required to attend a safety briefing and to complete and sign FOTR's safety indemnities before being permitted to take part.
