Control trolley, station and loco depot
Howzit, all !!! It's been some time since I was last here, so I'll just post some photos, and try and explain less. I didn't know where to control my trains and points from, so I built a trolley on castors that i could move into the ring, or outside the room. SAM_1238.JPG Now, as planned, I've built...

Re: Dream City Railway
OK, I watched the underground vid until 4:30 when the double-headed passenger train came past.
Do you have any kind of automated signal system?
Was it actual real-life policy to push the undergrounds on turnaround, with the unit at the back?
So many questions .......

Re: Dream City Railway
Roy , WOW !!!! Did you add onto your house specially for that layout? How many years has that taken you so far? Were those 2 Mallards that I saw together in one photo? I was just thinking.......... 1500 feet is just under 40' x 40' - that's far bigger than any garage or lounge that you get in most h...

Re: Colorful SAR
Oh, yes....... This week I received Jean Dulez's 'Railways of Southern Africa 150 years'. What a book. There are 1000's of photos, none of which I have ever seen before. It is the ultimate reference on SA locos. Interesting facts and anecdotes and photos. As a modeller, I appreciate that each class ...

Colorful SAR
Apologies for not posting in the last few months. The fact is, I am in a rented house, and the realisation that moving my layout is out of the question ( it will have to be taken apart ), I have concentrated more on getting SAR rolling stock modelled. It is a mission, because everything takes 8X lon...

Re: Naked models and trainspotters – a shattered illusion
John, I laughed at this. When all my technical issues ( I went too electronic too soon, without knowing any electronics ), are sorted, I'm going into scenery and people with a passion. This article appeals to me because my plan was to always have little scenarios that people have to really look at t...

Update - scenery
It has been a long time since I've done any kind of update on the layout...... I have to put some dead grass patches, and some darker grass patches, as well as some bushes and trees, which I have, just have too place them. This is supposed to be the Boland area, that will segue to the Karoo from the...

Re: Blue flags
I don't know anything about a blue flag, but it sounds like a terrestrial version of the 'diver down' flag that would be shown from a boat.

Re: Model train in US fish and chip shop
Cool !!!! Enjoy your time there.... and buy plenty of N Gauge stuff to add to your collection. I recently had surgery that didn't turn out well, but it's been fixed and getting better, so I'll be getting back to my layout. There have been a number of weeks since I was able to crawl into my control c...

Re: Model train in US fish and chip shop
Where you there, John?
It looks neat, but the effort that must have gone into shaping the wood runs underneath the tracks must have been immense.
I'm trying think of what I would have used as a substitute, that could be bent into shape?

Thanks, John.... it's one of my treasured memories.
John, the signals we spoke of : nothing has happened, but the guy involved is confident that we are close to creation of them.

An anecdote posted to a different forum
Good day, gents. On Sunday I had a few glasses of wine, got nostalgic, and looked up 'interworking tablet'. I came to this forum : http://www.signalbox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2985&p=56952#p56952 The thread was way out of date, but I wrote the following short story, and then decided th...

Re: 6. Interesting automation
Here is the finished product .......... Z999.jpg The amazing thing is, it works !! I ran into hassles with getting the two points to switch at the same time, so I looked the solution up, and found out about capacitor discharge units. Peco makes one, but I found that my 21 bucks spent on the componen...

Re: Interesting automation
Neil, The only place I could find them was RS components online. They have an enormous selection of items, I just knew that I wanted 12v double pulse, double throw, double coil latching relays. These guys seem to have a warehouse, or despatch centre in Gauteng. What I wanted isn't kept in stock, I h...
