Re: Kenya needs an underground (?)

I REALLY don't understand how he can bring apartheid into all of this?

Also, Cape Town's water table is much to shallow to ever allow an underground system. There was some bull story a few years back about the line from Woodstock to Cape Town being buried to create something like 26 street blocks?

Re: 6E1s at monument station

Monument station actually refers to the original station of the Cape Town to Sea Point railway line that was located very close to the statue of Jan van Riebeeck, which at the time of opening was almost on the shore line. The famous jetty at the bottom of Adderley street was only a short distance aw...

Re: Atlantic Rail rides again

That first picture is my favourite too. Unfortunately the only shovel available was the fireman's one. Later it was decided to just go and and clear the sand away with the locomotive, it worked!

Wonderfull weekend :)

Re: Chile: TransAtacama Express

Very interesting. Totally away from the railway and seeing as you seem to be knowledgeable about the situation: What role did the unions have to play in this matter? The miners might be smiling very broadly because they are earning a nice sum of money and that they can now probably care for their fa...

Re: Chile: TransAtacama Express

R1680 will get you from Cape Town to Johannesburg with the Premiere classe train (1600km, 26h, 5 course meals all incl).

That seems quite steep for just a hotel/motel room, do you get value for your money? I thought South Africa was expensive

Re: Chile: TransAtacama Express

Looks like an impressive operation, I just don't like that colour...

I don't know how long they will be able to operate as the fare looks quite stiff.

EXACTLY! It's like saying road will be self funding by 2015! Just imagine what the increase in tax-on-petrol levies and other licensing costs would be!

PRASA – BUSES FOR “THINNER” ROUTES

WHAT??? "self-funding by 2015" They must be totally mad! A public transport service can NEVER be self funding! Especially rail, not even the UK can get the service to be self funded, even when they are trying. The only way for it to be self funding is by increasing the ticket prices by lik...

Re: 600+ members on FOTR forum

Although all o...
