Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
I saw 4 of these in the Stadler yard at Valencia today, numbers 3 & 4 being worked on and the other two parked in the engine test bay. All 4 look like they will be ready in a month or two but no idea if they will be shipped or put into store with the 7 Euro 4000 locomotives still here. Does anyone ...

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
At long last things have started moving again. A few AFRO4000 have been worked on then stored at the back again, there are still 7 here. The good news is that a new locomotive appeared this morning on the test track. It is called PRASA DUAL No 1.

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
The same thing is happening all over the world - it's called progress.
When railways are electrified with overhead wires this brings a new dimension into play and a new loading gauge comes into play. If necessary, doorways need to be modified, bridges need to be raised, or the tracks lowered as has ...

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
A new locomotive has been sighted, it looks like a Eurolight but it has been said that the new AFRODual will be based on the Eurolight body. There is no sign of a pantograph on the roof, which is all that has been visible so far. Several new buildings are going up in the yard so it is likely that ...

Re: AFRO4000 derailment
So many conflicting reports at the moment its difficult to know the truth. One even says it was hauled by an E18 electric and certainly one of the locos on its side in a picture is not an AFRO4000 unless they have been modified and repainted dark blue with yellow diagonal stripes! Another report ...

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
So nothing has happened here at all, but I have been pointed to this wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Class_Afro_4000 Is anyone able to comment further on this?
This seems to tie in with our earlier thoughts, and the fact that further deliveries have been suspended, with the ...

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
Hi Craig, nothing seen as yet. They are often very secretive about the first member of a new build until one is presented to the customer, and that is usually the second one, the first being in plain white livery and loaded on to a low-loader, covered over, and taken to a test location such as Velim ...

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
Production of the 20 diesel only locomotives is now complete, bar a few finishing touches such as remaining decals on No 20.
Production is now well under way on the Euroduals and the UKduals (class 88) and UKlights second batch (class 68s).
The first Euroduals are expected to appear shortly as is ...

As of the end of February 13 of the Euro 4000's had left the factory by road for Portugal and one shipment of 4 should have arrived by now.

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
No problem with speeds then, you might need a limiter!
Maximum speeds:
3000 series (freight) 120 km/h (74.6 mph)
3000 series (passenger) 200 km/h (124.3 mph)
3000 AC series (passenger): 160 km/h (99.4 mph)
4000 series (freight) 120 km/h (74.6 mph)

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
What is interesting is the fact that this version is only used for freight in Europe where they are proving very popular with private companies with small orders trickling through quite frequently. Only the 3000HP version, Bo-Bo with EMD 12 cyl engine, is used for passenger work, and only in Spain ...

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
This morning I saw AFRO 4006 and 4 other locos virtually complete and two transporter lorries were waiting to take 2 of the locomotives to Porto docks for onward shipment. So expect another batch to arrive sometime in February perhaps.

Re: Vossloh to supply Euro Dual locomotives to PRASA
The Hastings line was singled through the tunnel in 1986 to allow normal size trains to pass. HS1 was, and HS2 will be, built to UIC gauge. During overhead electrification a lot of changes are made by raising bridges or lowering the track to accommodate the wires but I don't think any allowance was ...
