Re: What does this mean ?

In 1988 or so it became SA Transport Services and coincided with the time of deregulation of government control of road transport. So when this happened transport services started leaving the rails. Sometime in the early 1990s the name Spoornet was then introduced. In 2006 or so it became Transnet F...

Re: B&W double-headed GMAMs

This looks like the Greytown line with 1in33 uncompensated grades, so that was the max load there I think. It was regarded as one of the greatest shows on earth in steam-lovers' eyes...

Re: Repainted coach

The contractor who did this job is Goodwill, a Zimbabwean who lives near me and has done quite a bit of panelbeating on my cars( my wife's cars!). I took him down and he gave us a quote of R6000 labour per coach. Materials were sourced by Nathan, and I believe they came to about R3000, which the clu...

Sunday Morning at Cullinan

This was one of the best sessions in memory- and it was a privilege to have been there. Numerous runpasts were conducted on the climb out of Cullinan, before reversing back to the station for a well-earned break. Enjoy the scenes below!

Cullinan Night Scenes

As dusk fell, the train reversed back to Cullinan, where the loco detached and stood under the cloumn for night photo action. David brought along 4 lights which did the job, and we clicked away until we got too cold. Gabor once again took the lead as being main actor- although he did do some work in...

Re: Hermanstad: pot-bellied pigs

Unfortunately the piggies were attacked by one of our dogs, Tequila, who broke into the cage. Luckily Arno arrived as this was happening and managed to save the day. Tequila has been removed from the site to Arno now. One pig had some wounds but they were attended to by myself and he should be ok.

Trainman the Train Driver

The great day has arrived! After 37 years on the footplate, Trainman Berelowitz has finally qualified as a train driver. He achieved this distinction today 16 December, being passed out by Coen Pretorius with flying colours. Unfortunately, his new-found skills could not be put to good use, since yet...

Nathan has had these wooden replacements made, in case these people do not return the stolen goods. He looks well-pleased with the outcome!
