Wardale 19D

Post by Derek Walker »

I was doing a page about the Wardale 19D - 2644 that is sitting rusting away at sanrasm and read the article on FotR website that mentioned her. But realistically how successful was she? does anybody have any stats on how she performed against a standard 19D and why she seemed to be withdrawn after so little service. I know she is as good as scrap now, but is she the sort of loco anybody would want to operate in a heritage operation now?
Not quite on the rails.

Yes, we would love to have 2644.

Coal savings and increaed output between 20 and 25 % than a normal 19D.

Is that still the case, Dylan, or has she been substantially rebuilt back to original form like the Red Devil has?

Dylan

The Wardale Loco is badly stripped. No piping left on her and no pressure gauges.

I dont think she was rebuilt like the red devil was in later years.

19D parts are std and it should not take much to restore 2644. SANRASM should get a 19D into service for hauling trains on the mine system. 19D's are such useful locos!
