hello, all – i'm searching for archival records to map the rail network in Cape Town going back to the earliest lines in the 1860s. i'm primarily looking for timetables, ticket prices, anything relating to numbers of riders...
i'm also interested in reading about debates over expansion and management of what's become Metrorail Western Cape.

Transnet Foundation maintains a huge collection of literary artifacts including books, reports, photographs and correspondence relating to the history of the old South African Railways and Harbours entity and its predecessors. This library is located in the basement of the old CSAR building in Rissik Street, Johannesburg, next to the Park Station. There is a good chance you may find what you are looking for in there.
