Controls of Class 7 Locomotives

Post by John Ashworth »

Can anyone help out here? Please respond on the forum, or to me directly, and I'll make sure it gets to Charles.
Many thanks for your E mails of June 2008 and the photographs of my visit to you at F O T R.

I am grateful for the hospitality you gave me for two days last year.

Can I take advantage of your generosity again and ask if you could help Tyseley Locomotive Works (where I am a volunteer) who are cosmetically restoring a South African Railways Class 7 locomotive ( introduced in 1892 ) for the U K s National Railway Museum. There is a problem with the regulator handle which came with the locomotive. The handle seems to be too long and we cannot work out how it should fit.

Is it possible to send us a sketch or photograph of the back of the boiler or let us know who could help.

Best wishes to you and all at F O T R.

Charles Addison

Thanks, Dylan. That was fast work - and it shows the value of an online forum such as this for railway research.

Here are Dylan's pictures, which we have now also sent to Charles.
