There was a time when a GMAM was used from Witbank to Pretoria on the LM Mail passenger as a means of using one crew for the train. However heavy on coal and not the best at the speeds for the load as well as being unpopular with Witbank crews who had hand fired locomotives for many years, they were soon replaced by the 15CAs. Regular loco was 4051 ex Breyton and she ended up at Rosmead for the Lootsberg line and was the last GMAM to work that pass.
