Prior to electrification, the line past Pretoria North was pole free and in the early 1970s was still busy with steam hauled trains. They ran to Pietersburg or even wayside shunts to Warmbaths or Nylstroom. Seen exiting from the road bridge at the North end of Pretoria North station is 15CA number 2819 heading North. 1971

Not a good shot at all due to negative problems, but a 15F heading Northbound, passing the new yard at BABELEGI not far from Pretoria. This was an industrial development in the then homeland of Bophutatswana. Today this yard is deserted and most of the rails lifted. 1972

Pretoria North station sees a class 24 from Nylstroom on an exchange working for loco washout and repairs at Capital Park, their main depot. The class 15CA 2847 teamed up with her from Nylstroom on a goods working and are now heading for the home depot. 5 April, 1972
