The windows of the third coach - a 3rd class coach - seem to be okay. Is the name of that coach "Bethlehem" or why is it written there above the first window? - 01.11.2009

Maybe some questions I've got can be answered in this forum.

I also hope these pictures of the train lodge in Robertson are interesting for you.

Gosh. If that's the condition of the 'Lodge" I would hate to see the likely condition of the restaurant!

I have seen coaches in a better condition at sanrasm... Ok, maybe thats an exageration. The names on the coaches were the destination boards as far as I know, they had a rolled up list of destinations that were changed by turning a little handle inside the coach. Reefsteamers has one that says Lourenco Marques (now Maputo).
Not quite on the rails.

It looks aweful! I wouldn't stay there! Presumeably it is painted on the other side just to create a railway "feeling" and then the place where the people sleep is away from the track on the other side???

I adore the "natural air con" ---environment friendly cooling system-----of the coach where one can see the windows clearly.
I am sorry it is obviously someone who bought these coaches and wants to turn them into a 2 star b/b.

The 1 which is refered in the second picture why it has this number below the SAR---it was common especially in trains such as the Trans-Karoo,Trans-Natal that these trains had their coaches numbered. I ma saying that this is the case as they used a "board" with the respective number which was fitted on the spot between the R and the destination indicator --see photo 2

The 2nd class are type E-2 and the 1st class are type C-36.

As to anyone sleeping there --I have the following to say:

Do not let the bed bugs bite......and they must be Huge!!!

Cheers
