Robertson Station

Post by Andreas Umnus »

On 01.11.2009 I walked nearby sunset through Robertson and took some pictures. I also walked to the railway station of Robertson and there I took these pictures.
The former station building of Robertson, seen from the street side. It is now a shop which sells antiquities. It is called "De Oude Markhuis". - 01.11.2009

On the trackside looks the old railway station building unfortunately more like a store for barrels. - 01.11.2009

This is the view in direction to Worcester. When I walked there it seemed that only the left track has regular traffic. Robertson 01.11.2009

Is that a steam loco to the left of the station nameboard?

No, it's a truck with trailer. But you're right, it almost looks like a steam engine. To be really sure I just checked the original picture witch is a bit bigger.

Ah, I see just that Stefan already answered. Thank you.

Are there not a whole lot of coaches staged at Robertson?

I noticed that there are two gaps underneath the platform. Seem there was a smaller signal installation and then a larger one at a later stage. Now there is nothing!

I cannot remeber much about robertson except that I noticed when passing through on the 16:20 Cape Town to George we reached Robertson at about 12:00 ( I think) and the Garret was always detached and took water some where. There waa always a loud crashing of levers and wires rattling and it seemed a busy frame. There were a large number of levers there with a frame approximately the size of Firgraove. Dylan Knott took me to this frame on my last vist to SA and he can give the frame size.

I regret I never took more notice of the insfrastructure in those days. I thought it would alsways be there!

Chris. Hope you are well.

Firgrove has a 20 lever frame. Is the frame at Robertson gone or simply abandoned in the cabin? I will check when FoAR goes there on an outing in Sept. (Stefan that includes u!)

Metrorail intends retaining the Stell loop with full Van Schoor / Semaphore operation as well.
