Stellenbosch Semaphores

Post by Luca Lategan »

This morning I braved the cold to go and photograph the Stellenbosch distant signal, unfortunately the trains ran late, so the light wasn't as perfect, but still an enjoyable experience. Incidentaly there is still a Siemens phone in that 'veldtelefoon'-box, but it doesn't seem to work, if you look closely, you can see the Van Schoor tablet holder in the right-hand window...

I take it this pictures is on the De Toit side?? they might of had an Intermidiate home signal before, and sure that portion is track circucted as it Looks like it on the stations diagram board. Not sure how correct I am as ive only be there once apon atime :) , also think there is a lever for boom gate or flash lights near there?? not to sure. cheers

Isn't that an outer home rather than a distant?

Outer home.

Yes there is a ground frame controlling derailers in the goodsyard.

Track circuit working certainly at Eersterivier, maybe here as well.

My bad, just testing you :)
Up Outer Home or Op Buitehuissinjaal
Fully electrically interlocked frame with track circuits that operates the booms and lights at level crossing.
Phone the signal cabin through Van Schoor machine? You turn a handle like 'nommer-asseblief' and there is some sound, but no one answered...
