V&A Waterfront Then and Now

Two comparative shots; the B&W taken around beginning September 1989, the colour taken yesterday.

In 1989, work was just beginning on developing the V&A Waterfront and the railway tracks still ran to there (around the sunken tank farm area, now flooded and now a marina). All has been uplifted and only one section of the original track remains near Portiswood Road, where Rovos had his sales coach.The Western Cape Preservation Trust were running up-and-down shuttles between the V&A and the sidings opposite the customs house.

Today there is absolutely no sign of the tracks. Also interesting to see how the Cape Town skyline has changed - the most obvious addition being Safmarine House.

I always love these then and now pictures.
It is a pity that there is no railway line anymore to the Waterfront.

I'm impressed at how accurately the photographer has found the right position, judged by the mountain and the tall buildings in both photos.
