Fotr History.

Post by Mike Haslam »

The home page of the web site says" Friends of the Rail, together for the first time with the Germiston heritage club, Reefsteamers, is fresh back from Witbank after running a steam train from there to Middelburg against a record number of contestants in this years' Rotary 'Greatest Train Race'. "

Incorrect! This is not the first time FotR has worked with Reefsteamers on the Witbank marathon.

In 2001, FotR took their 15F, No. 3094, along to Germiston, hooked up with Reefsteamers 15F No. 3016 and proceeded to Witbank to run the Marathon train.

The route taken by Fotr was: Capital Park, Germiston, Witbank (via Sentrarand), Middelburg and than return. It was an epic journey but was very successful.

Piet Steenkamp and Chris Saaimons were the drivers out, joined by Cliff Petzer on the leg to Middelburg and return to Capital Park.
