Peter Rodgers wrote:Spent an interesting weekend with the guys from Atlantic Rail. They ran two 'Easter Bunny' trains today from Cape Town via Langa, Bonteheuwel, Belville and return
Last night I joined them for the lighting up of the loco, rejoined them this morning for preparations, followed the morning train (not too succesfully photographically) and rode the afternoon train
Some photos:
Cab - The backhead
Brett1 - Trainee fireman Brett Radloff checks the water level in the boiler prior to lighting up.
Brett2 - Brett in a reflective mood
Craig&Brett - Brett lights up with the help of Craig Kennedy, another AR volunteer
Smoke - A bit of a haze around the loco as the fire starts drawing
Smokebox - Craig in action (not that you'll know it!), putting on the smokebox wheel
Kenny - AR volunteer Kenny Campbell gives 3655's plate a polish
Frikkie1 - Driver Frikkie Gerber in oiling mode
Frikkie2 - Frikkie inspecting
Rails - Tried mounting the camera on the front of the engine and shooting at slow speed with the aid of a timed release. Most of the stuff was not good (too much vibration), but this one looked quite impressive!
Pat - AR fitter Pat signing off the roadworthy certificate for the runs
Pit - A shot by Pat with Kenny oiling under the engine
Train - The train on the morning run near Epping
Hope you enjoy
Pete
