Norway Flamsbana Myrdal to Flam 2009-08-31

Post by Ian Roberts »

The trip from Myrdal at 867m above sea level down to Flam at sea level is spectacular although photo opertunities were limited by the weather.
The ruling gradient is 1 in 18 and it is adhesion worked with class 17 Bo Bo's at each end of the train.
At times four different levels of track can be seen at the same time
Originally the line was worked by steam, but electrified soon after completion.
Now used for tourist traffic only

Buit in 1982 this was the original version intended for use on the main lines, but found unsuitable and relegated to the Flamsbana and empty stock workings.

Looking forward from the train, its just possible to see the front loco in the rain
