A good idea to prevent vehicles going over the crossing... but it does not necessarily eliminate accidents.

Just the other day, I saw a TV news report of a woman who just escaped when her car "got stuck on the crossing". There were barriers for the crossing and they were in place. However from seeing a video of the accident, it looks like the woman saw that the barriers were down, drove off the road on the side, bypassing the crossing, got the front wheels over the first rail and then got stuck. She was just able to get out of the vehicle before the approaching train struck the front of the car.

So, what price barriers, anti-cross devices, in the face of human stupidity? All at the cost of a few minutes wait. I really feel sorry for the train drivers who through no fault of their own encounter these stupid people.
