September, seems to be "the month" for steam locomotive enthusiasts the world over, especially if one is fortunate to travel often to Eastern and Central-East Europe.
On Friday, 8th September 2012, the Hungarian Railway History Park, in association with MAV (Hungarian State Railways) and event sponsors proudly announced yet another fascinating Steam Locomotive Grand Prix!!!!
Over the weekend of 15 & 16th September 2012, the Hungarian Railway History Park, in Budapest Hungary, are proudly hosting the Central Europe Steam Locomotive Grand Prix and Dining Car Festival!
So if you are one of the fortunate few travelling through Eastern Europe, and can afford to put a few hours aside from your travels, please visit Hungarian Railway History Park on the above mentioned date(/s), and be part of a crowd and fill your camera's flash-card full with pictures or video!
Enjoy!
PS! Any sponsors willing to sponsor a "home-sick" steam active recruit to visit this GP??????????
:)

Central EU Steam Loco GP & Dining Car Festival - First Pictu
As this weekend rapid draws to an end, so is the closing activities are taking place, all the while, social media is coming alive with literally hundreds of pictures taken since Friday, and right through the weekend itself!!!
From what I can gather from friends, Friday was just another typical Central European Autumn day, partly-cloudy and cool in Budapest, as the locomotives emerged from the roadhouse, one by one, after having raised enough steam, the crews having examined and completed their necessary lubrication duties, and the Hungarian Railway History Park (HRHP) was a-buzz with assorted activities, from giving the static display one more final rub down, food stalls being erected and so forth.
Saturday, dawned to a brighter day, with the clouds from the previous day being burnt off by the autumn sun
With everything ready, with public already waiting in a large crowd outside, the Railway History Park opened the public gates at 08H00. The public streamed in, with anticipation of the weekend activities.
Sunday morning the activities continued under sunny skies, later becoming overcast yet again! The weather did not disrupt the main event, where different footplate crews completed against each other in a race up and down the length of the park, on four unoccupied sidings and loops, where crews hand to complete tasks, to progress from one stage of the race to the next, before the locomotive had to speed back to the start line to see which crew and locomotive worked the fastest and best together!
I have included pictures in no particular order of the weekends activities.
Photos have not been credited, as there are a number of them, where the photographer has not included his / her name, except where the photographer has included his / her name on the picture itself.
Here blow are video links that you may like to view, to experience some activity:
VIDEO #1 - A video interview of the volunteer project leader who assisted with the recently restored MAV 411.119 "Truman" steam locomotive. The video is in Hungarian, unfortunately without subtitles, but, non-the-less, reflects well on the weekends activities in the HRHP.
VIDEO #2 - Locomotive 204 gets turned on the round-house turntable . . . . .
Note / Reminder, to Self !!!!
Remember, to book a flight early next year, as soon as the date becomes available to attend the Hungarian Steam Locomotive Grand Prix.
Invite friends from SA and abroad to meet up in Budapest on the weekend!
I may need the assisting services of a SA qualified fireman as well!!!
