Simons Town line closed due to sand
Simons Town line closed due to sand
Last evening I noticed the train to Simons Town had stopped at Glencairn beach when I went to see why I found it was unable to get past the beach due to the sand over the tracks. The train eventually "turned around" and headed back to Fish Hoek while three maintenance guys arrived and started to clear the track with spades - in this wind Good Luck

This use to happen often between Swakopmund and Walvisbaai before the line was taken around the back of the sand dunes and not all along the beach.
Tho the two and a half hour trip from Walvisbaai to Swakopmund (30KM apart) at sun down, is a memory to be cherrised. (Average speed 10KMH)

This looks MUCH cooler than it is to clean up. Tubular track, PRASA?

Re: Simons Town line closed due to sand
Question - Could a train not proceed 'very slowly' through such sand? Thanks, Tom
