Hallo Alan, I phoned one of my contacts and she divulged the following information to me.

Monday saw the launch of a new initiative by Metrorail called Rail Tourism.

It's indended for tourists who want to visit the southern parts of the peninsula with an express train using the existing Strand Business Express trainset from Mondays to Fridays.

Schedule:
Cape Town to Vishoek 10h15 and 12h35
Vishoek to Cape Town 11h25 and 13h40

10h15 train departs from platform 1 as train 0411
12h35 train departs from platform 6

Fare: R31 return, R21 single vs R19 and R8,50 on normal trains.
No weekend service.

She doesn't think they serve beverages like on the other trains, but this isn't 100% confirmed.

Corporates can still hire the other trainset during weekdays between 10 and 14h00 and both sets are available for charter over weekends, possibly even to Worcester. Last price I heard was R11 000 with a seating capacity of 300, thus R37pp, beverages are served.

For more information, you can call the Metro helpline at 0800 65 64 63 or the train manager, Mr Manfred Williams on 0828519600

thanks luca

Maybe it should be advertised better, as I have never heard of it and the website only talks about the day ticket ( hop on and off )

Surprised that it stops in fish hoek and does not go all the way to Simons Town as I reckon thats the best section.

Thanks for the extra pics, Alan. I now see that it is indeed the Kayalitsha express set. The lady told me that it is the Northern Express set, it looks like the pilot train was the Northern Express from a photo in the Blits. The Northern Express is a nicer set.

Stefan, it is an express service, I don't know where it stops, but the Blits from Thursday suggests Muizenberg and Kalkbay, but this is not confirmed.

BTW, Dylan, I'm still trying to get that info for you.
