Kalk Bay - Part 1

Post by Andreas Umnus »

It was the 28.10.2009 (a Saturday) when I spend some time in Kalk Bay. I found there some places from where I thought it would be nice to take some photos of the Metrorail trains. The first set of photos I took from the harbour side while I changed the place for the next photos on the road side.
It would be nice if someone can tell me what kind (class) this trains are.
I saw in a magazin that they are called EMU?

Great pictures, Andreas. I like the busy-ness of some of those scenes, with the train standing out against a busy background.

EMU is an abbreviation for Electric Multiple Unit, a generic term for electric trains where the motors are in more than one passenger vehicle, not in locomotives.

Andreas

The train sets you saw were Class 5M2A.

There are also class 10M3's on the line, these are silver with blue. None are in your pictures. Its also possible that the newer 10M5 use the line in smaller numbers.

In the third photo you can just make out the walkway, you where probally on it when taking the photos, this was in fact where the original railway line was first positioned.

I thank you all for the nice comments and the information, you gave me.
Maybe I took also pictures of the 10M3 or 10M5 which I will post in part 2 of the Kalk Bay pictures.
It would be glad to know the exact class of these trains, too.
