Construction: A New Station for Mukuru Kwa Njenga/Reuben
The expansion of the Nairobi Commuter Rail Service continues to gather steam. The construction of the Mukuru railway station is the latest chapter of the initiative. Targeting commuters from Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Mukuru Kwa Reuben, Industrial Area and Embakasi North, the station is designed to serve over 2,000 passengers a day and boasts of a parking lot, platform, restaurant and waiting area.

The ongoing construction of the station is part of the rehabilitation of the Nairobi Commuter Rail (NCR) network by creating a dedicated commuter unit, upgrading halts to mini stations, modernizing the Nairobi Central Station (NCS), and obtaining Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) to increase the rolling stock and introducing rail services to areas currently not covered by the rail network. The initiative also includes track rehabilitation works to improve the riding comfort of the commuters, increase safety of operations and reduce the transit time of trips by eliminating speed restrictions.
