Queensland's Q150 Steam Train.

Post by Rob Stanier »

Hi All!

To celebrate the 150th birthday of the Australian state of Queensland, the government has had a steam train traveling through-out the state (see link below), visiting destinations that have not seen steam for many years!

The steam special is currently in my neck of the woods, so here's some pictures. I might also add, that this is the first steam locomotive to visit Cairns since 2005. The majority of main line steam activity in Queensland, is centered in the south eastern corner of the state (some 1700 kilometres from where I live)!

The train is currently hauled by BB18¼ # 1089. This was the last steam locomotive to be built and enter service in Australia (1958).

stunning pics. What a great looking engine engine, and with the right paint job those clerestory coaches would look like old SAR stuff.
Not quite on the rails.
