The first trip with a 15F to Messina and finally to Beit Bridge after
heavier track was laid from Louis Trichardt Northwards. Here, Driver Herman
Ras and Fireman Chris Barkhuizen make history at Pietersburg yard prior to
departure. 1974
These photos were taken during the sanction years of Rhodesia and the bush
war. Our SAR crews were not allowed off the locomotives in the Beit Bridge
yard, but with the relaying of heavier track from Louis Trichardt to Beit
Bridge, more trains traversed this section and the crews became familiar
with the Rhodesian staff.

Although not really allowed off the footplate in the Rhodesian yard of Beit
Bridge, our double header 15F crew pose for a photo with our return working
to Messina. I am second from left!! 1974

Viewed from the cab of the 15F we see a Rhodesian Railways diesel with a
load in the new Beit Bridge yard. 1974

The 15F is returning to Messina from Beit Bridge yard. Approaching the
border and the Beit Bridge itself, we can see the points that still led to
the original Beit Bridge station, soon to be clamped and removed. 1974

Double 15F stand in the new Beit Bridge yard with a load from South Africa.
The footplate crews escape the hot cabs and sit on the adjacent tracks,
although, as previously mentioned, not strictly allowed. 19784
