3020: Nairobi to Athi River

Post by John Ashworth »

We proceeded from Nairobi to Athi River, stopping in section just short of the bridge to drop the passengers, after which the empty train proceeded to Athi River Station. Kenya Wildlife Service buses were waiting by the lineside to take them to the Nairobi National Park, where I understand they had a great time. The "bush lunch" (provided by Mawenzi Gardens) was apparently superb and the game drive was very good, with plenty of lions as well as other animals. The buses took the guests back to Mawenzi Gardens in the early evening. This tremendously successful inaugural trip bodes well for the future of this initiative which is planned for the first Sunday of every month (and more often if demand is great enough).

Now we know why our water tanker with the correct fittings on it wasn't available - it is attached to the weed-spraying vehicle.

There were no loos on the dining car and 3rd class commuter coaches which made up the train. It was a cool winter morning, lots of tea had been drunk while waiting to board... so we had a toilet stop at Embakasi Station

Is the water tanker to be re-stencilled "For steam engine and weed sprayer water only"?
"To train or not to train, that is the question"
