Plinthed loco at herronmere in Johannesburg
This beaut can be found inside the grounds of City Power's offices in Heronmere. She is in a beautiful condition and very intact. Any identification data on her would be appreciated.
Not quite on the rails.

Re: Plinthed loco at heronmere in Johannesburg
More information from my source... Elizabeth (7805) was built in 1954 by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns Ltd, Newcastle-on-Tyne, She had a sister engine called George that was later plinthed in the Municipal Depot in End Street, Johannesburg. Both engines did service at the Orlando power station in Soweto until 1990.
A plate on her boiler confirms the 1954 date.
I hope that George is still around, but for the love of me I have no idea where the depot in End Street is.

Wonderfull to see that there are others out there who do care for preservation aswell. Two fine examples of preservation.

What's all the kit mounted on the rear of the red one? Air brakes?

Looks like it. Seems there is an airbrake hose with stop cock dangling from the rear buffer beam just right of the coupler.

John A asked, and I quote;
That is air brake equipment, which loco "George" was kitted out with!
This addition occur when the then SATS administration, found it difficult to supply the much needed coal supplies, in vacuum only brake train-loads, and near the end of operations of Orlando Power Station, most of the coal arrived on air-braked 100 axle trians, power either by diesel or electric traction, which is/was much better suited to air braking.
Nice to see the condition of these loco! Leaves a lot to be said!

I must admit I am amazed at the condition of both of those loco's, but I expect its because almost nobody knows about them. I believe Reefsteamers would like to get George because of the brake mods, but I doubt if JRA would part with her. They also had some gear in the front which I suspect is associated with the brakes.
I spotted the signal from the highway as I went past in the morning and thats what led me to her (and some great guesswork too).
The site also has a signal and point where she is which adds a nice touch.I spotted the signal from the highway as I went past in the morning and thats what led me to her (and some great guesswork too).

Yes, that looks like an air pump on the front.
