South African cream wagon

Post by John Ashworth »

A South African cream wagon, done by freelancer Johan P, based on pictures supplied by me of the FOTR cream wagon, believed to be the only one still running.

The hollow mesh walls are filled with absorbent material which is kept wet by water dripping from the roof tanks, thus keeping it cool.

I've often said we should set up a bar in it, put in a few seats, and market it as a luxury coach for those hot summer trips!

Sadly I have I have looked on all the obvious (nad major) MSTS sites on the Internet - and it does not exist there. If it does, certainly not under SAR, SPOORNET, cream, creamery., milk etc.

I have a nice picture of one on the 2007 calendar on the Standerton to Vrede line. They were once seen all over. I reckon you guys are right, lets use it as crew cooling off space on the Bela Bela trains or real stinker hot days!
