Recently a Safety Bulletin has been issued regarding the turbocharger issues on GE's Evolution Series Locos. 2 Class 1 railroads have been affected so far – BNSF and another.

The issue stems from catastrophic failures of the turbocharger shafts, causing parts of the rotating turbine assembly to break off and exit the body of the locomotives.

Loco’s affected are the ES44DC, ES44AC and ES44C4 series built between Jan 2007 to March 2009.
Affected units have been withdrawn, and this is in some cases causing motive power issues.
