FOTR as reported in Railways Africa

Post by John Ashworth »

It's always interesting to see how others view you, in this case Railways Africa
As in the case of Reefsteamers, the future of the Hermanstad site used by Friends of the Rail in Pretoria appears uncertain, with Transnet looking to sell land suitable for development.

In current news: class 19D no 2650 worked the pre-Christmas excursion trains to Cullinan but needs to be laid up in the course of 2015 for tube replacement. Duties will devolve to class 24 no 3664, though this has lesser hauling power. Rovos Rail’s class 19D no 3360 is not a potential back-up in the short term as it too needs tube work. Class 25NC no 3533 at Rovos could be used, but only as far as Rayton, due to light rails on the branch beyond. It would be necessary to transfer travellers to buses, to reach Cullinan.
FOTR can confirm that the lease for our Hermanstad site has been renewed for another year.
