Natal old main line these days

Ask a real train driver or fireman questions about how engines work, railways operate or anything else. If we do not know the answer, we will find out!

Natal old main line these days

Post by Willem Kotze »

Good day everyone, I'm new to the forum.

Having grown up in KZN, the Natal old main line came through the area where I lived(Kloof) on it's way to Cato Ridge from Durban. Those were in the days when it was still electrified, but these days the part between Pinetown and Cato Ridge has been de-electrified. Why has it been de-electrified and is it still being used as an emergency back option whenever there is a problem on the main line?
