What was (or is) the Orange Express?

Ask a real train driver or fireman questions about how engines work, railways operate or anything else. If we do not know the answer, we will find out!

Was the passenger train from Durban to Cape Town. Went via Bloemfontein - kimberley line. Coaches were slightly different shade of Gulf Red and sort of a cream window line.

I travelled to Durban once with my Grandfather, It waas an extra fare train but as a kid I did not see much differnce to the other trains I travelled. In later days, after my time in SA, the old blue train oaches formed th orange express. Unfortunately it fell victim to alien transport.

The old Blue train was made into the Drakensberg express. It first travelled from CT to DBN and then from DBN to JHb before its demise. I have sent to photos of the Drakensberg in the photo section under "South Africa Coaches and rolling stock."
