New Duchess from Ace Trains of London

Post by roy james »

I thought the streamlined Coronation was a masterpiece.
The Duchess is a work of art.

Thanks, Roy. Those Metro Vics are great. I can't imagine there are many models of them around. How many have you got on your layout? All scratch-built or can you buy them off the shelf?

Hi John,
The Metro Vics are ready to run recently made by Ace Trains of London.
I have 6 on my layout, 4 London Transport livery, 2 Metropolitan Livery.

Roy ,

WOW !!!!
Did you add onto your house specially for that layout?
How many years has that taken you so far?
Were those 2 Mallards that I saw together in one photo?

I was just thinking.......... 1500 feet is just under 40' x 40' - that's far bigger than any garage or lounge that you get in most houses.

Please give us more background: What made you choose O as against HO?, etc.

It looks absolutely styling. The amount of work ( I know, I'm busy with an N layout - I can do the same in 10' by 10' ( if the talent is there - it's a struggle) ) is incredible.

Thanks for posting. I have a slow connection, so I'm hesitant to watch movies, unfortunately.

OK, I watched the underground vid until 4:30 when the double-headed passenger train came past.

Do you have any kind of automated signal system?
Was it actual real-life policy to push the undergrounds on turnaround, with the unit at the back?

So many questions .......

Hi Fidel,
Thank you for taking an interest in my railway.
This is a private railway not open to the public.
The railway is 50 feet x 30 feet and runs through 5 interconnected sheds situated in the grounds of my house.
30 trains run simultaneously through 17 stations which are named after my grandchildren on over 2000 feet of track.
It is fully automated on a block section basis and is operated from a central control room with the aid of closed circuit television.
It has taken me approximately 16 years to build.
It is a fantasy world and any similarity to the prototype is intentional.
The video's attempt to show most of what you are likely to want to know.
The cab ride gives an indication of size.http://youtu.be/pViR_J285l4
For some reason I have been unable to upload any further photographs but I have enclosed a few links below.
