Hereford UK (N Gauge)

Post by rogerfarnworth »

I have gradually been modeling the railways of Hereford in the Vicarage loft. I model in N Gauge.
This thread provides details of the work and research undertaken.

I have been modelling Hereford's railways in N for a number of years. The vicarage loft has provided excellent space to do this. This has resulted in a growing interest in the North West Route through the Welsh Marches. Thus first blog post in this thread relates to some of the websites I have visited while exploring the potential of the area around Hereford for modelling:

This inext post begins the story of the layout that I have been developing in the Vicarage loft over the past few years. The layout includes Barrscourt Station in Hereford, and the MPD in the Barton area of Hereford.

This is the next post in a series about a layout representing Hereford in the UK:

One control panel (for one of the fiddleyards) has been completed and the wiring is also complete. The second control panel, which controls the station area, is being wired up. About 30℅ of the trackwork is in place. The track is predominantly Code 80, as in some places I have had to use 9″ radius curves and points. Points are a mixture of electrofrog and insulfrog. Virtually all points on the layout will be controlled by wire in tube.

The third in a series of posts about the ongoing construction of the loft layout.

In order to get a really good impression of the station at Hereford, I visited a few times and also managed to get others to take some photos for me. The station building is listed and is a significant, unique and easily recognised structure. I enlisted some help in making the building, but more of that another time. I must have upwards of 200 different photos of the station building at Barrs Court!

This next post provides a few local photos and a link to an album of relevant photos that I have created on Flickr.

This post provides a link to pictures taken at locations in Hereford on the railway, or close to it:

A further post in the story of the loft layout it provides links to some further useful sites for research on railways in the UK:

The internet has been a tremendous boon in undertaking research on Hereford. There are many sites which provide historical details and photographs: facebook pages, blogs, flickr, local government sites, britain from the air, etc.

One of the iconic structures which was part of the station at Hereford was the platform signal box.

This next update is very short - it shows the signal box from the earlier post in position on the layout - just two pictures ....

The footbridge at Hereford Barrscourt Station has recently been completely rebuilt. Until then the skeleton of the old footbridge remained in place but in a much less photogenic condition than the original. The old footbridge bore some similarities to the one at Gloucester.
