TRANSNET BUYS USED QR LOCOS
Acknowledging a shortage of motive power, Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) has bought 34 diesel-electric locomotives second-hand from Queensland Rail (QR) in Australia. They are to be used as a stop-gap until new units on order arrive. The QR locos are likely to be sold at that stage to rail operators in other countries on the African continent. The used locos comprise 20 of the GT22CU-3 model and 14 of the GL26C-2...

The 2170 Class GL26C-2 date back to 1982/3

The 2250 Class GT22C-3 were rebuilt in the last 10 years, however the frames date back to 1973/6. Some of the engine cores are ex 1502 Class which date back to 1967. Salvaged Roots blown 12-645E crankcases were rebuilt as E3 turbos

These are not "new" by any stretch of the imagination
