2650 takes a break at Pyramid

Post by Steve Appleton »

FOTR's 19D, 2650, and its train take a well-earned break between the red signals at Pyramid station north of Pretoria whilst the passengers party Halloween away at a nearby venue. Pictures by Steve G Appleton, taken around 22:00, October 31, 2009.

Aahhh...my home territory. Unfortunately was in Cape Town for HRASA meeting. Nice to see.
I thought the loco returned tender-first?

No, Chris. Went off and turned on the balloon at Pyarmid South. Enabled a good spirited run back to Hermanstad without the tender-first speed restrictions.

Quite rare to see photos of a FOTR train at night - but hopefully to be more common in future!

It is possible in terms of access agreements to run up to 11pm. For this train we asked special permission, submitted our fire and other risk strategy and were approved.
You guys in KZN should do this. Very popular to travel at night..

Thats good to know. Our Christmas carols train always proves popular and in the past getting the timing right has been diffucult because carols by candlelight during the day doesn't tend to work very well!
