3117 - Test Run - Part 1

Post by Kevin Wilson-Smith »

Chris Janisch took pics of the 3117 test run.........

First train out for 3117, seen on the leg out to Koedoespoort. On board fireman Berelowitz and driver Petzer, along for the ride in our new coach the Dadfords, Spikkels, Les W, Kenny and Chris Janisch.Driver Cliff gets the clear to proceed through the yard, past a cavalcade of Class 39 diesels. What a feeling for man and machine as she stretches her legs out on the mainline under her own steam, for the first time in 17 years.

An easy run reveals few problems, except that the valve inspection cover blows off and the gap is plugged with a nearby branch, thus giving her antlers! Cliff greases her and the loco is run around at Koedoespoort.

Brilliant job. I am green with envy as the trains that I play with are 'HO'. Would you care to swap?
