20th Class Boiler Unit

Photos of motive and rolling stock, stations, signals and anything else train related in Zimbabwe and Zambia! Photos should be 800x600 pixels, maximum size 130K. Very good ones will be moved to the Online Gallery, the rest will be pruned away after 14 days to conserve space.

20th Class Boiler Unit

Post by Ian Roberts »

Attached is a photo of the boiler unit of a 20/20A Class garratt in the streets of Birkenhead, England on its way from Gorton to Birkenhead Docks for shipping.

Image

Taken using a Kodak Brownie 127 about 1955 when I was 13.

Which routing did these garrats follow to reach Rhodesia and were they assembled at the port(s) to make the trip.

Very interesting photo. I reckon John Middelton could help, or John Battwell. I will try contact them.

Lol, you should have asked me yesterday. I took the Rhodesian Railway book back to its owner today. I seem to recall reading that some locos were assembled at Salt River and some of the earlier ones were sent via Beira.
Not quite on the rails.
Check out my train vids. http://www.youtube.com/user/nixops
