Paul Ash drives on the RH&D railway

Post by Steve Appleton »

Well known local SA railway enthusiast and travel writer, Paul Ash, drives on the UK's famous narrow gauge Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. See http://multimedia.thetimes.co.za/photos ... ly-stoked/
Story at http://www.thetimes.co.za/News/Article.aspx?id=980257
Paul questions why something similar could not be done here on a section of the old George-Knysna railway:
For you SA preservation guys, this is the kind of operation that would work so very well on a truncated, lakeshore version of the George-Knysna line - a shorter run that won’t bore families, will be a lot cheaper to set-up and operate, and the perennial landslip issues above Kaaimans and the flooding in the cuttings above Victoria Bay will be rendered irrelevent.
"To train or not to train, that is the question"

I haven't been on the RH&D since I was a small kid. I remember it as a magical experience!

Truly bright green with envy! I rode it last year as a passenger, but was not aware that it was possible to drive on the line.
