Car wagon on the Premier Classe

Hi all, Monday afternoon when the Premier Classe from JHB went through it had a car wagon at the back that i have never seen before on a passenger train. Tuesday morning i caught the train again when it left and it had the wagon again in the consist. The normal car carrier were also in the consist but i can only guess more people are travelling with their cars.

I have also seen that on the Premier Classe. Perhaps they are short of car carriers. I note that the Premier Classe is double headed with 6E1's from Kimberely where the normal Tourist Class only one. Do they add the extra car coach to the Premier because of the weight to pulling power.

Jip, new car carries built for PRASA by TRE. Maximum capacity for large cars within the loading gauge. Even though the price to put your car on the train is a bit steep, it seems this service is extremely popular. New carriers will also allow more routes to have car transportation available. New carriers has hydrolic jacks inside to easily convert it to double decker or single deck for large 4x4s.

Todays Premier Classe had the normal and a second car carrier which looks like an old guards van

The "gaurdsvan type" is only single decker for up to 3 SUV type veichles or 2 SUV and 2 normal sedans. Other one has double decker for up to 8 sedans.
